Land Scores

mini zine series

land scores is an ongoing series of geographically-responsive choreographies. Blurring instruction and poetic response, the form both references and unsettles maps and “dance scores”: choreographic notation which shows sequences and isolations of movement often accompanied by music. Considering movement as a way of cultivating everyday intimacy with the land, land scores pay attention to how the body interacts with different geographies.

As a process-based work, each land score generates different materials—including sound, text, image, and pinned map locations—which I work from to create the land scores. The format of a mini zine allows for dissemination and interpretative participation, with two pages left blank for its reader to create their own score.

Land scores: tidepool was created on the unceded territories of the lekwungen-speaking peoples, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
