Becoming a Breeze is a reflection on structures, seeing and slipping. Taking the form of a breeze block as a departure point, the book considers how both physical and digital architectures of power — including algorithms, monuments and hostile structures like slanting benches — shape our sightlines and classify bodies. Although the breeze block is now a ubiquitous form often used for decorative gates and walls, it was initially designed for hot climates as a building brick which allowed ventilation through negative space. Through personal poetics, the breeze block becomes a lens for considering the possibilities of porosity. By becoming a breeze, what structures might we slip through?
